How We Work

We are an all-volunteer, grassroots organization. Our Board of Directors is elected every two years by the membership. We have monthly Board meetings (except for December and August), and all decisions are made by consensus. For the time being, our Board meetings are via zoom. Our Board meetings are always open to all CU4ML members to attend and participate.

CU4ML committees

Most of our work is accomplished in our committees. We encourage our members to join one of our committees and contribute their talents and time towards preserving and protecting our ML homes.

To join a committee, please send an email to committees@cu4ml.org and let us know which committee you would like to work with.

Education: developing materials about Mitchell-Lama for distribution to our members, politicians, and the public; and updating and maintaining our website

Membership: keeping track of our members; collecting dues; organizing our twice a year membership meetings; running our elections

Legal: works with legal support attorneys to accomplish the policy goals of CU4ML via pathways in the legal system

Speakers Bureau & Advisory: sends speakers to ML co-ops for presentations, and coaches development-based pro-ML groups in how to develop their own local organization to effectively fight privatization and semi-privatization (‘2 to 11’) in their developments

Board Members Round Table: an every-other-month meeting of CU4ML members who are Board members at their cooperatives to discuss issues, compare notes, gain support, and create best practices

Legislative: This committee is currently operating as part of the Mitchell-Lama United (MLU) legislative coalition—to contact MLU, write to mitchelllamaunited@gmail.com
